As something of an inadvertent merging of several of my hobbies, I assign Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab perfume scents to all of my dolls. I find BPAL scents to be very evocative of a certain mood, feeling and personality, and so it was very easy for me to link the two, as my dolls all have such strong personalities as well.
Zafkiel
Scent:
Xanthe, The Weeping Clown
Description:
Guava, orange peel, white pepper, spun sugar and apple blossom.
Thoughts:
Like Zafkiel, this is a candy sweet scent, full of love and sugar. It is heady, sweet, delicious, and ripe with sugary promise, just the teeniest edge of peppery 'snap', and nothing even remotely dark.
Mikael
Scent:
Blood Kiss
Description:
Lush, creamy vanilla and the honey of the sweetest kiss smeared with the vital throb of husky clove, swollen red cherries, but darkened with the vampiric sensuality of vetiver, soporific poppy and blood red wine, and a skin-light pulse of feral musk.
Thoughts:
Just like Mikael, this smell is delicious and inviting, hard to resist, but at the same time very dark and almost threatening in a way.
Raziel
Scent:
Mr. Nancy
Description:
Sugar cookies with bay rum, tobacco, and lime.
Thoughts:
This scent sums up Raziel, both sweet and tangy all at once -- a sugary, childish innocence coupled with a sharp, citrus vibrancy and an edge of boozy, cigarette-scented adulthood.
Gavrael
Scent:
Tombstone
Description:
A rugged, warm blend of vanilla, balsam and sassafras layered over Virginia cedar.
Thoughts:
Like Gavrael this scent is dry, masculine, rugged, dusty and a little murky. It is a sort of manly and powerful but ultimately somewhat lonely scent... and over time a little edge of sweetness comes forth.
Tzadkael (Kael)
Scent:
Red Lantern
Description:
Golden amber, blonde tobacco, Sudanese black coconut, rich caramel, black currant, white opium and delphinium laced with a sensual blend of Asian spice.
Thoughts:
A scent that captures Kael only too well, it smells of dark decadence, of the sort of place that one really shouldn't be and yet can't help but go back to. Sensual, strong, spicy, deviant, and naughtily sweet.
Hanael
Scent:
Samhain
Description:
Damp woods, fir needle, and black patchouli with the gentlest touches of warm pumpkin, clove, nutmeg, allspice, sweet red apple and mullein.
Thoughts:
This is a scent that sums Hanael up wonderfully: strong and spicy, intense enough to be almost overwhelming, but with an undercurrent of sweetness, and overall sadly nostalgic.
Rafariel
Scent:
Snow White
Description:
Flurries of virgin snow, crisp winter wind and the faintest breath of night-blooming flowers.
Thoughts:
A scent that captures the essence of Rafariel -- it is coldly and delicately beautiful, ethereal and elusive, and difficult to capture or hold on to.
Khamuel
Scent:
Dracul
Description:
Black musk, tobacco, fir, balsam of peru, cumin, bitter clove, crushed mint, and orange blossom.
Thoughts:
The definition of Khamuel, it is sharp, biting, tangy and powerful. It is a strong, independant, aggressive and determined scent, with the slightest barely-there edge of sweetness that empowers rather than softens.
Kashael
Scent:
Mechanical Phoenix
Description:
Copper gears, brass cogs, fused wiring, scorched iron, and motor oil.
Thoughts:
A very Kash scent: bold and brassy, it ultimately smells like the one-night stand you may regret but never forget. A sensual, searing, overpowering and very manly scent.
Ixoniel (Xon)
Scent:
Schrodinger's Cat
Description:
tangerine, sugared lime, pink grapefruit, oakmoss, lavender, zdravetz, and chocolate peppermint.
Thoughts:
The epitomy of Xon: it is lively, brimming with boldness and brashness but innocence and naivety as well. It is tangy, sharp and sweet all at once, complex and contradictory but very endearing.
Ametael (Meta)
Scent:
Centzon Totochtin
Description:
bittersweet Mexican cocoa with rum, red wine, and a scent redolent of sacrificial blood.
Thoughts:
Like Meta, this scent is bold and incredibly sharp and bracing; for all that hint of underlying sweetness, one never doubts that it is always bittersweet. Dark, moody, and empowered in a slightly dangerous way.
Atronael (Tron)
Scent:
Crowley
Description:
Infernal musk, red patchouli, lilac cologne, mahogany, lemon rind, oakmoss, leather, and vanilla husk.
Thoughts:
Like Tron, it is firey hot, dry, moody and dark, and the edge of sultry leans more towards surly with a hint of a wicked smirk. One can never quite be sure if that rare hint of sweetness is real or imagined; without a doubt, it is the brooding, burning sensuality that dominates, both enticing and distancing all at once.
